BESPOKE AND DESIGN

FROM DESIRE INTO MATTER
Some commissions begin with a clearly imagined object.
Others emerge from a problem, an obsession, an image, the particularities of a body, a precise function, or simply the persistent conviction that something absent from the world ought to exist.
LAB ACCIDENT develops bespoke pieces in leather and rubber for private clients, performers, artists and creative projects. A garment, a bag, a mask, a harness, an accessory, or something more difficult to name. Something that refuses an existing definition and demands its own method of construction.
These commissions are created for ideas that cannot be found in a catalogue or resolved through an existing design. They may need to transform the body, control movement, perform under pressure, conceal, reveal, protect or provoke.
The starting point is not a product.
It is the idea, however precise, strange or unresolved it may be.
FROM IDEA TO CONSTRUCTION
Every commission begins with a conversation.
Purpose, movement, proportions, the body and the way the piece needs to function all become part of the design. How it should feel, how it should behave and what kind of presence it should create are considered from the beginning.
The idea is then translated into drawings, construction studies and material tests. Structures are developed, components are resolved and unconventional solutions are engineered specifically for the piece. When necessary, prototypes and fittings become part of the process, allowing the object to evolve before its final form is constructed.
Leather, rubber and metal are not treated as decoration. Each material is chosen for what it can withstand, restrict, support or transform.
Nothing is added without purpose.
Every line has to earn its place.
UNFINISHED THOUGHTS WELCOME
You do not need to arrive with a finished design, a technical drawing or even a name for what you want to create.
A reference, a function, a photograph, a fragment of an image, a strange requirement or an unfinished thought can be enough to begin. Sometimes the most compelling commissions start with something that has never been properly defined because no existing category is capable of containing it.
LAB ACCIDENT will determine what is possible, what needs to be developed and which rules may need to be rewritten along the way. Materials, structure, movement and construction will be examined until the original thought can become a physical object.
The request does not need to be conventional.
It only needs to be worth bringing into existence.
